Basic Spoon Carving

  • Learn safe knife grips and carving techniques to shape your own wooden spoon. A relaxed introduction to hand tools with a finished project to take home.

  • No prior experience needed. All materials and carving knives provided. You may bring your own carving tools if you’d like to learn with them.

Hand Sharpening

  • Discover how to sharpen and maintain your edge tools by hand. We cover stones, strops, angles, and techniques so your chisels and planes stay razor sharp.

  • Bring along your own chisels or plane irons if you want to work directly on your tools. Loaner tools and sharpening equipment are available in the workshop.

Hand Tool Setup

  • A practical session on tuning and using hand tools with confidence. We’ll cover setup, adjustments, and the essential techniques to get consistent results.

  • Students must bring their own hand tools to this course, as the focus is on setting up and learning to use your own kit. See the course page for full requirements.

Basic Box Making

  • Build a simple wooden box using classic joinery. This 3-day project introduces accurate marking, cutting, and assembly — skills you’ll use in every project.

  • Bring your own hand tools if you have them; a full list is provided on the course page. All timber is supplied and some tools are available in the workshop.
