Choosing Your Baseplate
Gridfinity baseplates are sized using a grid rather than conventional length and width measurements. Each grid square measures 42 × 42 mm, so a 5 × 5 baseplate covers an area of approximately 210 × 210 mm.
Standard Gridfinity Dimensions
1 unit = 42 mm
2 units = 84 mm
3 units = 126 mm
4 units = 168 mm
5 units = 210 mm
6 units = 252 mm
For example, a 4 × 6 baseplate has an approximate footprint of 168 × 252 mm. Small manufacturing tolerances may affect the finished dimensions slightly.
Measuring Your Space
Measure the usable inside width and depth of your drawer, cabinet or work surface in millimetres. Divide each measurement by 42 and round down to determine how many complete Gridfinity units will fit.
If you are unsure, provide the actual inside dimensions in the form and I’ll help determine the most suitable baseplate arrangement. Please mention any obstructions, rounded corners or other restrictions that could affect the fit.
You can add files and images to the form if needed.
Choosing a Baseplate Type
Light Baseplate
A lightweight, filament-efficient option for keeping bins aligned on a flat surface.
Connectable / Magnet-Ready Baseplate
Designed for joining multiple plates into a larger layout, with provision for magnets where additional holding strength is required - magnets not included.
Large layouts may need to be divided into several connectable plates to suit the available print area and make installation easier.
About Gridfinity
Gridfinity is an open-source modular storage system created by maker and YouTuber Zack Freedman. Its standard 42 mm grid allows compatible bins and baseplates to be rearranged as your storage needs change.
PlyCreations designs and 3D prints compatible components based on this open system; it is not affiliated with or endorsed by Zack Freedman or Voidstar Lab.
