In Part 3 of our hand plane build I start bringing pieces back together, manage slippage during the glue up and get reminded that I need more clamps! I get into mouth openings a bit before I finish off by opening up the mouth to let the blade through. There may also be a confession about getting the body of jointer into a twist but you would need to read the whole article to get to that part!

In this article we start by preparing the rough blank before cutting out the parts that will be laminated to make up the body of the plane. Hand planes, even the wooden variety, need good, sharp blades and if you will be making the plane you might just as well consider making your own blade. Most woodworkers, though, would hardly consider making their own blades an achievable goal but in this step by step article I show you how simple it can really be!
